

Co-op members all over the Philippines will celebrate this October as National Cooperative Month. Scheduled for the nationwide celebration are events to campaign or advocate the Principle and Values of Cooperativism the impact of co-ops in the lives of Filipinos, communities, and the nation – generally the contributions of co-operatives in nation-building.
The 2022 National Cooperative Month will have the theme: KooPinas: Nagkakaisang Lakas para sa Makabuluhan at Sama-samang Pag-unlad! (KooPinas: Unity for Meaningful and Inclusive Development).
The United Movement for the Advancement of Cooperativism[1] in the Philippines, also known as UCMP, an alliance of co-op federations, unions, cooperative development officers, and other stakeholders in the co-op movement, in harmony with the Cooperative Development Authority, has calendared and prepared a series of activities slated for this month of October.
The National Cooperative Month celebration is mandated by Republic Act 11502. Through the lobbying efforts of Dr. Divina C. Quemi, CEO of Nueva Segovia Consortium of Cooperatives and Philippine Cooperative Center Chairperson, a UCMP resolution enjoining all local government units, line agencies, and the private sector to support the cooperative month celebration was also approved in the Regional Development Council-Region I.
To jump-start, the celebration, UCMP affiliate Philippine Cooperative Center will air on Radio Veritas to discuss the activities during National Cooperative Month.
The Cooperative Development Authority, the government agency promoting the growth and development of cooperatives will be holding its National Alliance of Cooperatives Convention from October 7-8, 2022. The League of Cooperative Development Officers of the Philippines will hold a CDO/COOP Congress Region V Chapter on October 6-7, 2022.
On October 10, 2022, there will be a forum by the RCO- Education and Advocacy Cluster.
A photo exhibit at the House of Representatives depicting the movement in action through the years – including their impact during the initial days of the COVID-19 pandemic (October 10-13). There will be a Social Impact of Cooperatives Presentation, hosted by PCC and Bayan Academy on October 14.
The National Anti-Poverty Commission- Cooperative Sectoral Council will have a virtual event for the United Nations International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, discussing the poverty reduction measures of co-operatives (October 17).
On October 18-19 the National Transport Cooperatives Forum will be held in Cebu organized by the National Federation of Transport Cooperatives.
On October 20, the Union of Metro Manila Cooperatives (UMMC), together with CDA-NCR, RCDC, and OneCoopFederation, will hold the Metro Manila Cooperative Congress. On the same day, the Association of Asia Confederation of Credit Union (ACCU), Philippine Federation of Credit Cooperatives, MASS-SPECC, and National Confederation of Cooperatives will celebrate International Credit Union Day.
As the current Philippine Cooperative Development Plan is nearing its end, there will be a consultation for the proposed Philippine Cooperative Development Plan for the years 2023-2028 on October 21. An online International Cooperative Multidisciplinary Research Conference organized by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, UMMC, and the Credit Institute of Malaysia will be held virtually (October 26-27). LCDOP will also hold an Assessment and Forum on the Status of CDOs and LGU Implementation of RA 11535 on October 26, 2022.
UCMP also calls on Local Government Units, Line Agencies, and the private sector to conduct activities such as seminars/webinars for the promotion of cooperative development, exhibitions and endorsements for cooperative products and services, and other activities that help promote cooperatives nationwide.

[1] UNITED MOVEMENT FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF COOPERATIVISM IN THE PHILIPPINES (UCMP)
Formed initially as a partnership between the Philippine Cooperative Center (PCC) and Coop NATCCO Party List in 2020 (the voice for the movement in the House of Representatives), it evolves eventually into an alliance of the major cooperative networks in the movement in 2021— the Philippine Cooperative Center (PCC), Coop NATCCO Party List, National Cooperative Development Council (NCDC), the League of Cooperative Development Officers of the Philippines (LCDOP), Union of Metro Manila Cooperatives, (UMMC) federations, unions, and primaries throughout the archipelago and came up with a Cooperative Strategic Plan from 2021-2025.
