The Philippine Journal of Co-operative Studies has been conceptualized since July 2021 under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Antonio Cecilio T. Pascual of Union of Metro Manila Cooperatives (UMMC) together with Dr. Hilda F. San Gabriel of the Department of Cooperatives and Social Development,Dr. Garibaldi O. Leonardo of Philippine Cooperative Center (PCC), and Dr. Jose R. Domingo, Jr of Union of Enterprising Cooperatives (UNECO).
Co-operatives were proven as effective instruments for the advancement of the working classes and the less fortunate segments of society. As such, co-operatives have become the subject of researches of various academic and non-government institutions. Cognisant of the massive valuable information generated from conducted researches on co-operatives, it is proposed that a compendium of these researches be published in a journal.
The objectives of this project are:
1. To encourage researchers to publish their studies about co-operatives;
2. To document co-operative best practices, particularly in the Philippines, and eventually, covering the global cooperative movement
3. To disseminate researches about co-operative studies as reference for policy and program development;
4. To encourage the involvement of professionals in the conduct of researches related to co-operatives and co-operative management.
Furthermore, the project aims to encourage the State Universities, Colleges, private universities, and individuals all over the country to collaborate with the cooperative sector to submit a research journal on cooperatives in any of the following topics:
1. Human Development, Health, and Sustainability
2. Social and Cultural Diversity
3. Economic and Environment Challenges
4. Digital Technology and Innovation
5. Good Governance and Transformative Leadership
6. Youth Involvement
The said project was formally launch on September 28, 2021 thru virtual conference via zoom.
